Lieutenant General John Castellaw (Ret.) is the president of the Crockett Policy Institute (CPI) a non-partisan policy and research organization chartered in Tennessee. He spent 36 years serving in the Marines, holding several operational commands. He is a recognized national security expert, with a particular focus on defense spending and strategy, and issues of food security.

Lieutenant General John Castellaw is the president of the Crockett Policy Institute (CPI) a non-partisan policy and research organization chartered in Tennessee. He spent 36 years serving in the Marines, holding several operational commands.

His last assignments on active duty were in the Pentagon where he oversaw Marine Aviation and the Marine Corps budget. Prior to this, he served as the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Central Command during the Iraq War. He was with the UN during the Siege of Sarajevo, and commanded a U.S. joint force in the multi-national security and stability operation in East Timor.

He is affiliated with several national security advocacy groups and is a teaching fellow at the University of Tennessee, Martin. He sits on several boards, including the National Security Advisory Council of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition, the board of the American Security Project, the Center for Climate and Security, the Climate Security Working Group and the American Security Project. He also works with economic development organizations, and advises a number of corporations on management and strategic planning.

He is a recognized national security expert, with a particular focus on defense spending and strategy, and issues of food security.

He has provided commentary for various media outlets including the BBC and The Washington Times.

General Castellaw graduated from the University of Tennessee, Martin (UTM) with a degree in Agriculture and a commission in the Marines.
