Shervin Taheran is serving in the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation. She most recently was at the Arms Control Association focusing on U.S.-Russian arms control, civil nuclear cooperation agreements, ballistic missile defense, the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and nuclear testing, and the U.S. nuclear arsenal, particularly in monitoring the annual National Defense Authorization Act and congressional Appropriations process. Since joining the Arms Control Association in 2014, she had served in a variety of capacities there, as a program associate, a research assistant, and a program and policy associate. Through her work, she coordinated the Bipartisan Policy Nuclear Dialogue project for congressional staff and also lead the “Project for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty” website, as well as creating an infrastructure coordination mechanism for the globally-spanning CTBTO Youth Group, which consists of over 700 members. She has spoken on webinars for Women’s Action for New Directions, the millennial-focused Philip DeFraco Show, and high level panels alongside former Undersecretary of State Ellen Tauscher and former IAEA Director Hans Blix at foreign ministerial conferences at the United Nations in Vienna. Ms. Taheran has also been published in InkStick, Houston Chronicle, InDepth News, Arms Control Today, and the Arms Control Now blog. Ms. Taheran has interned for both Democratic and Republican members of Congress, and was a scholar intern at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. She was a dual-major in International Studies, concentrating on the Middle East, and Political Science at Southern Methodist University, and double minored in Arabic and Human Rights.
