Over the weekend of September 27-28 2013, the Nuclear Security Working Group convened at the Airlie Center in Warrenton, Virginia, to discuss the state of the nuclear policy field and review best practices for policy innovation and communication strategies in the current hyper-partisan era. Many of the NSWG’s senior experts, both from within and outside of government, attended to provide their perspectives and share their recommendations on how to advance the nuclear security field in an age of austerity, growing partisanship in Congress, and declining interest in nuclear issues. This workshop also featured experts from the climate security community, facilitating a discussion about the overlap between nuclear security and climate change and how this overlap enables cooperation and collaboration between the two communities.
